This one was about both with a little happy hour magic sprinkled in.
The Hike
We kicked off the evening with a late-day climb to Primrose Overlook. This is one of those trails that rewards every step with scenery straight out of a postcard. The golden hour light painted the mountains, and wildflowers lined the path like nature’s own welcome mat.
The group settled into that perfect hiking rhythm, chatting, laughing, and pausing every so often to soak in the views and catch our breath. The trail is a climb, and we embraced every step.
The Payoff
At the overlook we were greeted with sweeping views that made all of us stop and say some version of “Wow.” The mountains stretched endlessly, and the air felt fresher and cooler. It was the kind of place that makes you want to stay a while.
Since this was a Hiking Happy Hour, lingering was part of the plan. We all celebrated with our Primrose Overlook hiking badges we earned from Timpanogos Hiking Co.
Once the sun dipped below the peaks, our adventure continued just a short drive away at The Owl Bar at Sundance. Stepping inside felt like walking into a storybook lodge, with warm lighting, rustic wood beams, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night.
We gathered around the bar’s famous restored rosewood centerpiece, once frequented by Butch Cassidy himself, and enjoyed craft cocktails, mocktails, and small bites. The laughter from the trail carried right into our table, making the evening feel like one long celebration. It was the perfect place to end the night, swapping more stories and making plans for the next adventure.

It is the best of both worlds. You get the movement and beauty of a hike followed by the connection and relaxation of a happy hour. There is no need to choose between getting outside and catching up with friends when you can do both in one perfect evening.

Our Primrose Overlook adventure reminded us that not all hikes have to start at sunrise. Some are even better with a side of snacks, a golden-hour glow, and the sound of clinking glasses.
