After 100+ hikes across Utah, Colorado, Washington, New Mexico, and beyond, I’ve learned what gear actually matters vs. what’s just marketing. Everything here is what I personally use or what our community swears by. When you shop through these links, a small commission comes back to GOAT — which helps keep our adventures affordable.
OSPREY
This pack fits like it was made for a woman’s body because it was! The hip belt actually hits my hips. I’ve worn it on multi-miler days and never had a hot spot. It goes on every GOAT trip.
LMNT
Utah altitude + heat will wreck you if you’re not replacing electrolytes. I put a packet in my water on almost every hike. No sugar, no junk – just the stuff that keeps you moving.
GARMIN
Non-negotiable for any backcountry hike. Two-way sattelite messaging when you have zero cell service. I never go remote without it.
HYDROLID
Turns your Hydro Flask or Nalgene into a hands-free hydration system – just clip on the drinking tube and sip while you hike.
ROCKY TALKIE
We use these for everything – day hikes, long trips, offroading, you name it. Lightweight, 4 mile range, and they just work! No cell service needed.
Petzl
You need a headlamp on every hike – even day hikes! Sunrise, late finishes, unexpected delays. This one is lightweight, bright, and won’t let you down.
COLUMBIA
Sunscreen is great, but a UPF hoodie is better. Lightweight, breathable, and protects your arms and neck all day without reapplying. A game changer for full sun exposed trails.
AMAZON
Every hiker should carry their own basics. This kit covers blisters, cuts, sprains, and more without weighing you down. Fits in any pack and we hope you never need it!
Chapstick
Your lips will thank you. Chapped lips at altitude are no joke and SPF lip balm is the easiest thing to forget. Toss three of these into your pack and never think about it again.
GOODR
Polarized, no-slip, and affordable! These stay put on descents, don’t bounce, and come in colors that actually make you smile on a brutal uphill.
HONEY STINGER
Never bonk on a hike. Pack more food than you think you need – always. Our go-tos are high protein, easy to eat on the move, and don’t melt into a disaster in a hot pack.
AMAZON
A good hat is a non-negotiable on exposed trails. Keeps the sun off your face, sweat out of your eyes, and looks cute at the post-hike brewery.
