Last night’s Hiking Happy Hour on Tuesday, January 13th took us up The Living Room trail, proving once again that showing up matters, even when conditions are not ideal.
It was cold, and the inversion was very much present. The air was heavy and the city felt wrapped in winter smog. Still, a solid group gathered with layers zipped, headlamps ready, and a shared commitment to get outside anyway. The trail may not have offered the clearest views, but it offered something just as valuable: movement, connection, and a break from the usual routine.
The climb to The Living Room sparked conversation and laughter as we worked our way up together. Pausing along the trail meant checking in with one another, adjusting layers, and appreciating the fact that even on nights like this, the trail has a way of bringing people together. It was not about the summit view. It was about choosing to be there.
After the hike, we headed to The Pie Pizzeria Underground to warm up and wind down. Hot pizza, cozy tables, and a lively atmosphere were exactly what everyone needed after a cold winter hike. Stories from the trail carried into dinner, new connections formed, and the night ended feeling full in all the right ways.
Hiking Happy Hour is not about perfect weather or postcard conditions. It is about consistency, community, and making the most of what we are given. Last night was a great reminder that even on cold, smoggy evenings, getting outside and gathering together can still be a win.
