Saturday morning, January 17th, we kicked off another Local GOAT adventure with a crisp winter hike to Battle Creek Falls. The air was cold, the trail was quiet, and the energy of the group was exactly what these mornings are all about: easygoing, welcoming, and grounded in community.
We gathered early as the sun began to light up the canyon, boots crunching over frozen dirt and patches of snow. Battle Creek Falls is a familiar trail for many, but winter always gives it a different personality. The bare trees opened up views of the surrounding canyon walls, and the steady sound of the creek followed us as we climbed.
The pace was intentionally relaxed, leaving room for conversation, pauses to layer up (and down!), and moments to simply take it all in. This is the heart of Local GOAT. No pressure to rush, no expectations beyond showing up and moving together. Some conversations flowed easily from the start, others unfolded quietly as we walked side by side.
As we approached the falls, the reward was unmistakable. Battle Creek Falls was partially frozen, water spilling and glistening beneath sheets of ice. We lingered longer than planned, snapping photos, sipping warm drinks, and soaking in that collective feeling of accomplishment that comes from earning a view, no matter the distance.
The hike back down felt lighter, conversations a little louder, smiles a little easier. By the time we reached the trailhead, it was clear that this simple Saturday morning had delivered exactly what it promised: fresh air, movement, and meaningful connection.
Local GOAT mornings are a reminder that adventure does not have to be far or complicated. Sometimes it looks like an early alarm, a familiar trail, and a group of people choosing to start their weekend outside.
Thanks to everyone who joined us at Battle Creek Falls. We cannot wait to see where the next Local GOAT takes us.
