Some adventures are about the summit. This one was about the shoreline.
This past weekend, a group of us packed up our boards, our towels, and a stack of well-loved paperbacks and headed into the Uintas for a proper beach day at Washington Lake. No mileage goals, no elevation to chase. Just alpine water, warm sand, and a whole afternoon to soak up the last of the season together.
And what a way to send summer off.
There’s something a little magical about the Uintas in late summer. The light goes golden, the water sits still and clear, and the air has just the faintest reminder that fall is waiting in the wings. Washington Lake delivered all of it.
Some of us hit the water right away, paddleboarding out across the glassy surface and taking in the view of the peaks from a whole new angle. Others claimed a patch of beach, cracked open a book, and didn’t move for hours, and honestly, that’s its own kind of adventure. That’s the thing about a GOAT beach day: there’s no wrong way to do it. You can chase the water or you can chase the quiet. Both count.
The highlight of the day? Paddling out and discovering a little island sitting right in the middle of the lake. There’s something about stumbling onto a hidden spot together, the kind you didn’t plan for and couldn’t have found alone, that makes a day feel like a story worth telling later. We’ll be talking about that island for a while.
As the sun dipped and the beach towels came in, it was hard not to feel a little wistful. Summer is winding down. But days like this are exactly why GOAT exists: to give women a reason to get outside, a place to land, and people to share the sunshine with.
Because the mountains are better with your people. Every single time.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made this one so easy and so good. Here’s to a summer well spent, and to whatever the next season brings.
