If you weren’t at this week’s Hiking Happy Hour, first of all, we missed you. Second of all, let this be your sign to come next time, because this one was really good.
Ten of us laced up and headed out to Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and the trail delivered in every way.
Donut Falls is always a good time, but we caught it at peak glory. The waterfall was absolutely raging, more water than most of us had ever seen out there. That iconic donut-shaped hole in the rock? Practically overflowing. It made the whole hike feel a little extra special, like the canyon was putting on a show just for us.
The energy on the trail matched it. Lots of laughing, lots of chatter, the kind of easy conversation that happens when you get a good group of women moving together through the mountains.
Yes, really. A moose. Just casually existing in the canyon like it owned the place (to be fair, it kind of does). Whether you’ve lived in Utah for decades or just moved here, a moose sighting never gets old. We’ll count that as a GOAT bonus!
Most of the crew were GOAT regulars, which meant the group hit its stride fast. There was no awkward warm-up period, just good people ready to move and have fun. That’s one of my favorite things about this community: the more trips you do together, the easier everything gets.
After the hike, we made our way to Porcupine Pub & Grille for a well-earned meal. Cold drinks, good food, that post-hike glow where everything tastes a little better. It was the perfect way to close out the evening. There’s something about sharing a meal after a hike that turns a good day into a great one.
Hiking Happy Hours are one of my favorite GOAT formats… low-pressure, after-work, totally doable on a weeknight. If you’ve been on the fence about joining, this is your invitation.
Keep an eye on our upcoming events and come see what all the fuss is about. We’d love to have you.
