Some hikes go exactly to plan. Others come with a soundtrack of distant thunder and a whole lot of luck. Tonight’s trip to Stewart Falls was the second kind, and it made the day even better.
A 2pm start and a very lucky window
We hit the trail at 2pm with one eye on the sky. Afternoon storms were rolling through the area, and we could hear thunder rumbling in the distance for a good part of the hike. Somehow, we skirted every single one. Not a drop on us! We will absolutely be taking credit for that.
The falls
Stewart Falls was mostly a trickle this late in the season, but it was still beautiful. There is something about standing at the base of those tiered cliffs that works no matter how much water is coming down. A quieter waterfall just meant more room for conversation, photos, and taking it all in.
The aspens
The aspens were just about past peak, but still so pretty. Fall in the Wasatch doesn’t last long, and catching the tail end of the color felt like a little gift. Gold on the trail, gold overhead, and a group of women soaking up one of the last great leaf days of the year.
Nachos, drinks, and more laughs at Owl Bar
No GOAT hike is complete without the after party. We headed to Owl Bar at Sundance for nachos, drinks, and more good laughs together. This is the part where trail acquaintances turn into actual friends, and tonight was no exception.
Thank you for showing up
To everyone who came out today: thank you. You showed up with thunder in the forecast, kept the energy high, and made this one to remember. This is what GOAT is all about.
