Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you almost talk yourself out of.
Our latest GOAT Basecamp Hiking Happy Hour took us to the Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge in Draper, where summer temperatures were high and wildfire smoke hung in the air. We weren’t sure what turnout would look like, but once again, the GOAT community reminded us what they’re all about.
Despite the heat and hazy skies, we still had seven women show up ready for action.
That’s the magic of GOAT.
What started as a beginner-friendly evening hike quickly became something more. As we made our way along the trail, conversations flowed, new friendships formed, and everyone had the chance to experience one of the area’s most unique landmarks, the suspension bridge tucked into Bear Canyon.
Basecamp events are designed for women who are newer to hiking, returning to the trail after time away, or simply looking for a welcoming group to explore with. There is no pressure to be the fastest hiker or have the fanciest gear. Just show up, take one step at a time, and enjoy being outside with a great group of women. Due to some scheduling conflicts of new participants, we were able to add in a few GOAT “veterans” to the mix who could help show the new participants the ropes.
After crossing the bridge and soaking in the views, we headed to Bout Time in Draper for dinner and drinks. The evening wrapped up exactly how we like our Hiking Happy Hours: sharing stories from the trail, celebrating another adventure together, and making plans for the next one.
The weather wasn’t perfect. The air quality wasn’t ideal. But the women who joined us proved that sometimes adventure is just about showing up anyway, even when conditions aren’t perfect.
And we’re so glad they did.
