Three women drove out to the trailhead last night not knowing a single face. By the time they reached Gloria Falls, they weren’t strangers anymore.
That’s the part that still gets us.
Somewhere along the way, it gets hard to make friends as an adult. Life fills up. The calendar bends around everyone else’s needs before it ever gets to yours. And the idea of showing up alone, to a group of women you’ve never met, starts to feel like too much. So a lot of us just don’t. We tell ourselves we’ll go when things settle down. When we’re a little more in shape. When we have someone to come with.
Last night, three women stopped waiting.
They didn’t have the perfect timing. They didn’t come with a built-in friend group. They just showed up, laced up, and started walking. And something happens on a trail that doesn’t happen anywhere else. The small talk falls away. The conversation gets real. By the time the falls came into view, they were already trading stories, already planning the next one.
This is what our Basecamp hikes are really about. It was never about being the fastest or the fittest. There’s no pressure to look a certain way or keep a certain pace. It’s just women, a trail, and the quiet reminder that you’re capable of more than you give yourself credit for. That you deserve a few hours that are only yours.
Gloria Falls was small last night. Three women. And honestly, that’s what made it. Nobody got lost in the crowd. Everybody got seen.
If you’ve been reading this and feeling that little tug, the one that says maybe I could do that too, we want you to know something. You don’t have to be ready. You don’t have to be experienced. You don’t have to have a friend to bring.
You just have to show up.
Our next Basecamp hike is in October, and there’s a spot on the trail with your name on it. Come meet the friends, and the version of yourself, that have been waiting on the other side of showing up.
We’ll save you a place.
