If yesterday morning was about roots, last night was about the view. After our Mother Nature Walk, a group of us traded the trail for the water and set out onto the Great Salt Lake for a sunset cruise, and what a way to close out the day.
There’s something about being out on the water that makes everyone exhale. The pace slows down. Conversations get a little deeper. And when the sun starts dropping toward the horizon and the whole sky lights up over the Wasatch, it’s hard not to feel lucky to be exactly where you are, with exactly these people.
The Great Salt Lake doesn’t do anything halfway at golden hour. The light stretched long across the water, the mountains turned every shade of pink and purple, and the lake handed us the kind of sunset you can’t photograph well enough to do it justice. We tried anyway.
This is the other side of what GOAT is about. Not every adventure has to be a summit or a hard push. Sometimes finding your people looks like standing at a boat rail together, watching the sky change, not saying much at all. New faces met longtime regulars. Friendships that started on a trail got to keep growing somewhere new. And more than a few of us admitted we’d never actually been out on the lake before, which is exactly the point. We’re here to do the things we’d never get around to doing alone.
To everyone who came out: thank you for making the water as good as the trail. Nights like this are the reason we keep dreaming up new ways to get outside together.
More adventures are already on the calendar, and if last night taught us anything, it’s that the best ones tend to fill up fast. Keep an eye out and grab your spot when something calls to you. Find your people, find your peak. We’ll see you out there, on the trail or on the water.
