Every once in a while, a moment happens that captures everything GOAT is about and this was one of those moments.
What started as a normal hike quickly turned into something so much more.
A group of GOAT girls gathered at Bear Canyon Suspension Bridge, ready for a scenic adventure like any other. But behind the scenes, there was a plan in motion. Texts had been sent, details coordinated, and excitement building for a surprise that would turn this hike into something unforgettable.
And I had no idea.
As I made my way along the trail, nothing seemed out of the ordinary until suddenly, it was. Around the bridge, the group came together and the surprise unfolded. Decorations, treats, and a full-on impromptu birthday celebration in the middle of the mountains. The kind of moment that stops you in your tracks.
What made it so special wasn’t just the effort, it was who was there.
These weren’t lifelong friends or people from the same hometown. These were women who I met through GOAT. Women who showed up to hikes, said yes to something new, and built real friendships along the way. And this was their way of giving back to me.
There were hugs, a few tears, a lot of laughter, and that overwhelming feeling of “this is exactly what it’s all about.”
After soaking in the moment at the bridge, the celebration continued at The Cliff Dining Pub. With views overlooking the valley, great food, and even better company, it was the perfect way to keep the night going. Stories were shared, glasses were raised, and the energy carried from trail to table in the best way.
This wasn’t just a birthday party.
It was a reflection of what happens when people take a chance on community. When they show up, open up, and create something real together. GOAT has always been about connection and this was that, in its purest form.
A surprise, a celebration, and a reminder that what started as a hiking group has become so much more.
