Official Statement on Public Lands, Wildfire Safety, and the U.S. Forest Service

April 2026

At Girls Only Adventure Trips, our entire community is built around access to public lands.

Every hike, every canyon, every trail we gather on exists because of the people who manage, maintain, and protect those spaces, including the United States Forest Service.

We are paying close attention to recent changes impacting this agency, including staffing reductions, research facility closures, and reduced capacity for trail maintenance and wildfire prevention.

At the same time, we are seeing a rise in human-caused fire incidents in local recreation areas, including recent arrests related to intentional fire setting in Big Cottonwood Canyon. These events are a reminder that risk on our public lands is not abstract. It is immediate, local, and growing.

We are not here to speculate on politics. We are here to name reality:

Public lands only stay safe, accessible, and enjoyable when they are properly staffed, funded, and supported.

When that system is weakened, the impact shows up quickly:

  • Increased wildfire risk
  • Reduced trail maintenance
  • Longer closures and limited access
  • Higher safety concerns for all visitors

Girls Only Adventure Trips exists because these places matter. They are where our community forms, where confidence is built, and where connection happens.

We believe protecting public lands is not optional. It is foundational.

Our stance is simple:

We support full funding and strong staffing for public land management agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service, especially for wildfire prevention, trail maintenance, and land stewardship.

We also encourage our community to stay informed and engaged in decisions that impact access to public lands.

What you can do:

If you care about these spaces, make your voice heard by contacting your elected representatives and expressing support for fully funded public land and wildfire management agencies.

Because once access is reduced or lost, it is not easily restored.

These mountains are not just scenery. They are shared infrastructure. And they require shared responsibility.
